Salone del Mobile 2024

Seeking silent in the crowded noise

Written by Inma Buendía

This year, more than any previous year that I have visited the Salone del Mobile, my seek for spaces transmitting calm was more pronounced than ever. Maybe I’m getting older, but the most spectacular installations, those that have remained in my retina more strongly, are the ones that made me feel alien to the outside noise, at least for a moment, as is was very loud noise.

Those spaces that spoke softly were the ones that made their message reach me despite everything. Fortunately I found some. Poliform was one of them. In a setting inspired by Villa Oasis in Marrakesh, the latest interior designs of the Italian brand emphasize elegance and refinement with a focus on an elevated living. The touch of designers like Jean-Marie Massaud, Emmanuel Gallina, and Stefano Belingardi Clusoni was intriguing and sophisticated.

The serene atmosphere also came from the Karimoku Case through projects such as “BELLUSTAR TOKYO” and “Azabu Hills Residence,” where the local zelkova wood was the guest star. Minimalist interiors with wooden elements and textured white walls upholstered the whole space with calm and tranquility.

Karimoku Case principles are admiration for beauty, material richness, and timeless appeal, values that Norman Foster shaped in the furniture pieces he has created for the Japanese brand, whose focus is the versatility of the design for different room uses.

SABA

Hermès brought the new creations closer to the objects of its heritage, transcending time and playing with the ambiguity between the ancient and the current. Located at a huge space such as La Pelota, the Basque pelota fronton of Milano, the installation paid homage to the brand’s bonds with the land by giving the scenario to the raw materials—brick, stone, slate, wood or compacted earth in a captivating set called The Topography of Material.

EXPORMIM

The round and linear elements of the Symposium sofa designed by Studiopepe for Saba Italia evoked that sensuality deeply rooted in the Italian personality. Based on simple and pure shapes sculpted in sinuous lines, the collection presented at Saba Italia store in Milan was a delicious close down of our visit to the latest edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano.
