In its 60 editions, the Salone has stood out as a space that embraces the most important advances at all levels. This year, it takes another step in that direction, understanding design as inherent to life. A discipline that grows and feeds from contact with other variables such as art, architecture and the cultural and social context. In this new edition, the idea of experience is at the center of its discourse through a program of exhibitions, talks, workshops and site-specific installations that will enrich each visit like never before.

María Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile, asked herself the following question regarding the path of the event: What is the new role of the Salone? How and where to start redesigning its evolution? To answer this and other questions, her team spoke with exhibitors and visitors. The result of this analysis is the new distribution of the space within the fair’s pavilions, carrying out a tour that integrates the spaces of the companies with the interdisciplinary cultural contents: the relationship between light, architecture, art and science.

“Looking to the future, this metamorphosis will encompass the entire Salone, which nurtures the ambition of contributing to redesigning the fair model.” Environmental, economic and social responsibility will also be a priority in this year’s call. “We are a global event. As organizers, we know the importance of sharing this ethical and responsible decision with all the exhibiting companies, the assemblers, the visitors and the entire design ecosystem”, explains Maria.

The Salone is distributed in several worlds: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Salon of Complementary Articles for Decoration, Workplace3.0, S.Project, Euroluce and the SaloneSatellite.  The biennial of light, Euroluce, will simplify the visit and increase the visibility of the exhibitors, taking inspiration from the layouts of the streets of traditional Italian villages. “The city of Lights” will be the concept and the theme of the biennial. As curator, Beppe Finessi will transform Euroluce into a happy workshop of emotions and knowledge. Thanks to the precise and intelligent performance of Formafantasma, the heart of Euroluce will be a large square and arena for immersion and reflection experiences under the name of Aurore.

Another of the great events of this edition will be the individual exhibition of Hélène Binet, one of the most outstanding authors of contemporary photography. Through an original selection of images, its curator, Massimo Curzi, will show us how Hélène’s work deals with the relationship between natural light and architecture.

1MORE

In the spirit of opening the Salone even more to the exchange and circulation of ideas, culture and creativity while underlining how strong and valuable the link with the city of Milan is, this year the collaboration with the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala is renewed for the third year in a row. This exchange was born from the desire to promote and value the talent of the Philharmonic Orchestra and, at the same time, offer the opportunity to give a unique experience to the design community. This year, both the symphonic program and the ballet will be inspired by light. Among the various performances, the choreography “Light” by Philip Glass stands out, a piece created ad hoc for the Salone.
