Timeless design is not simply about aesthetics — it is more about a presence that endures and a spirit that remains relevant through the years. Such is the legacy of the Dezza Armchair, originally designed in 1965 by Gio Ponti for Poltrona Frau. Now, in celebration of its 60th anniversary, this iconic design is reborn in a special limited edition of just 60 individually numbered pieces. A metal tag affixed to the back of each chair marks its originality while a signed certificate underscores the uniqueness of every crafted piece.

The Dezza Armchair is a study in contrasts: its modernist, square-linked form finds gentle balance in the elegantly curved armrests that define its profile. With an unmistakable sense of movement and dynamism, it captures the very philosophy of Gio Ponti—design that is both functional and expressive, contemporary yet enduring. Now, with this limited edition, the Armchair is reintroduced.

“We are thrilled to present this historic piece from our catalogue in a new guise. Designed exclusively for us by Gio Ponti sixty years ago it has retained timeless modernity. With our re-editions we always try to create and deepen the cultural significance of the original design, offering something truly exclusive that not only enhances the materials and finishes but, above all, celebrates the creative process behind the products.”, shares the CEO Nicola Coropulis.

Yet, the most distinctive trait of the reimagined Dezza design lies in its upholstery pattern. A carefully researched and rediscovered illustration by Gio Ponti—acquired at auction from a private collector—now graces the chair in an exclusive reproduction. The pattern consists of 26 stylized hands, each uniquely designed, each telling its own story. More than a decorative motif, this playful design embodies Ponti’s deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the ‘intelligence of hands’—a tribute to artisanal mastery and the human touch that breathes life into objects. The hand is more than a symbol of craft; it represents the individual, the creator, to an instinct the essence of humanity.

Wrapped in Pelle Frau ColorSphere Impact Less leather, the Dezza Armchair aligns with Poltrona Frau’s commitment to sustainability—an initiative the brand has embraced since 2022. Its refined shades of panna and iris are reminiscent of the airy, joyful interiors Ponti once created, evoking the blue and white majolica floors of the iconic Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento.

Not only the design but also the piece itself holds a special place in Poltrona Frau’s history. It was the brand’s first product following its relocation to Tolentino in 1961—a move that signified a new era, a direction that has shaped the company ever since.

Some designs do not simply exist within a moment; they transcend time itself. The Dezza Armchair exemplifies the philosophy of Poltrona Frau —a timeless form, reinterpreted for today, yet destined to remain as relevant tomorrow as it was sixty years ago. The limited-edition available exclusively from February 13 to April 1 through selected Poltrona Frau online shops and afterwards also a few physical stores offers the opportunity to purchase one of these very unique pieces.
