Baxter Lago, design 9

Baxter Lago

A design temple over Lake Como

It’s 9 am. The yellowish early light collides against the façade of the house and interrupts into the inside through the tall and large windows that are repeatedly present through the house.

Their white and wooden portals aren’t closed, probably for unexpected instances like these where the vibrant rays of the morning sunlight create a faint but opaque trace, outing the particles of the air. Stepping out to the terrace, you can feel those early beams of illumination hitting against the most raw version of your skin. It’s almost like a wake-up call, the contact of the morning sun doesn’t burn, but it lets you know that it’s there.

Looking out, grabbing onto the stone railing that limits the perimeter of the terrace, we are graced with a vast deep blue presence: Lake Como. In a paradoxical way, observing the Lake and the green mountains that surround it, it feels almost overwhelming. But, at the same time, you can see that you are not the only one experiencing that. The voluminous trees that create the green mass around Lake Como -as if painted with a pointillist brush- provide contrast to the white stucco walls of homes dotting the hillside. It seems like a neighborhood, a very open and wide one, where the communal pool has been switched with one of the most striking and picturesque landscapes in Italy.

And, luckily enough, Baxter has a front row seat to this view, which is called La Casa Sul Lago. Situated on a twentieth century villa, the home-showroom has been given a twist to host this year’s collection, tiptoeing into the daring but exquisite style of the 1970s, which combines perfectly with every tone of the Italian sunlight. Entering the house through the front door, the eye instantly catches the hand-painted geometric motifs, which fill the rooms with liveliness.

The 1970s theme is perceived immediately. The electric blues, cognac, black and dark purple extrovertedly contrast with the warmness of the wood, the broken white of the lamps, the brown of the leather and the modest touches of gold that provide the necessary reminder of luxury. The curated palette sets the scene for a variety of furniture and design pieces, reminding you that La Casa Sul Lago is the home for good taste. Some of the stellar appearances that one can spot when strutting through the house are the Greta Special Edition Printed armchair, the Jo sofa by Draga&Aurel in the living room, Baxter’s new Clara bed by C. Delcourt and Roberto Lazzeroni’s Himba sofa on the terrace.

Walking through the house, passing every stanza that constitutes the home, we can find ourselves admiring everything that is inside these walls, whether it is the latest furniture of the collection, or some classic design pieces that you have always dreamed to possess. The route of the tour is guided with the hypnotic geometric patterns on the walls, an authentic red thread of the whole project. Let’s not forget about the main work of art of this whole location that can be found in every room: Lake Como.

Baxter Lago, this house -or home- designed and arranged by the Italian brand that was originated by Luigi and Paolo Bestetti, acts as an authentic telescope on the lake. From the scenic swimming pool of the villa, one can unwind by looking at the outline of Como Cathedral. With the presence of an original sample of Italian architecture, La Casa Sul Lago is designed for relaxation, for affection, for aliveness and for rest. In the most pure form of the Italian DNA, Baxter Lago is about feeling embraced by nature and by design.
