Grupo Habita

Twenty five years of reimagining space, culture, and experience

From the 50s to the 90s, Mexico experienced a growing influx of tourism. By the year 2000, the country was welcoming around 20 million international tourists per year, positioning itself as one of the leading travel hotspots. People from all over the world were captivated by its culture, landscapes, and beaches. From Cancún and Riviera Maya to Mexico City and Guadalajara, travelers and locals alike continuously fell in love with its magic.

To this day, that magic remains palpable, and year after year, the world grows even fonder of the authentic aura it exudes. Resorts, residences, and hotels continue to multiply, but some key figures have been present since the early growth of tourism, setting an example of how to adapt to visitors’ preferences while preserving the essence of Mexico’s cherished destinations.

Launched in 2000, Grupo Habita has been a pioneer in Mexico’s design and lifestyle hotel scene. Mexico City, Puebla, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Veracruz, La Paz, Oaxaca, and Chicago all bear Grupo Habita’s signature, defined by architectural artistry and design excellence, seamlessly adapted to each location. In December, the company inaugurated Hotel Humano in the surfing paradise of La Punta de Zicatela, Puerto Escondido. This newcomer embraces and reflects its local community, welcoming barefoot guests and catering to surfers’ needs.

And yet, this journey seems only a prelude to new ambitions. As Grupo Habita enters its 25th anniversary, it remains focused on future projects. The company will soon launch Hotel Sevilla in Mérida, Yucatán, immersing itself in yet another beloved Mexican destination. With this new venture, Grupo Habita seeks to cultivate a renewed relationship with the city and its incredible inhabitants while introducing sophisticated travelers to its historic landmarks, archaeological wonders, and contemporary architectural gems.

Grupo Habita turns 25 but its hunger for innovation and aesthetic refinement remains inexhaustible. Working with some of the industry’s most talented architects and designers, the company—led by Carlos Couturier and brothers Moisés, Jaime, and Rafael Micha—has spearheaded a design revolution in Mexico’s hotel industry.

That revolution began in 2000 with the creation of its first lifestyle hotel in Mexico City and Latin America: Hotel Habita. Since then, Grupo Habita has curated a collection of diverse, award-winning hotels throughout Mexico, as well as in the United States with The Robey in Chicago. Every location is carefully chosen for its unique character, integrating the company’s vision with the spirit of the city and its neighborhoods. As they state, “It’s about creating experiences for guests and making the world a better place through hospitality.”
