FRAMA

Carving space through scent

Photographed by Paw Gissel

Nowadays, the art of sculpture has changed enormously. Electric and industrial tools, as well as digital resources, are available, consequently shifting completely the way of designing and producing sculptures. However, traditional sculpture is very much alive. Still to this day, Craftsmen and artists perform the original method of this discipline, preserving the ancient legacy of what once constituted the finest form of expression.

In constant exposure with all types of materials, from stone and wood to clay and metal, hands are a sculptor’s most treasured utensil. They comprise the artist’s direct connection with their creation, skin and the chosen material in a delicate dance. Transporting us into that same feeling of a sculptor’s hand in action, FRAMA has released two new hand care fragrances and their spatial identities: Escalier and Columnae.

Through Sculpture Garden, the tactile experience of washing one’s hands brings to mind the touch of materials like chalk, stone, and clay that build monumental structures from humble beginnings. Introducing the individual into the most immersive self care, FRAMA uses a sculptor’s process as a parallel to the journey of these two scents. The past is visited in the confident, grounded Columnae, whereas the bright, spiced Escalier brings forward the future.

Scent is viscerally tied to memory, and it has the power of generating experiences that, in some cases, could never be imagined. FRAMA’s approach to self-care is both sensory and spatial, seamlessly blending touch and environment. With the introduction of Sculpture Garden aromas, the FRAMA scent universe expands to embrace architectural essence. Hand care revisits the ancient power of the hands, while the scents in Columnae and Escalier offer a dialogue between connections.

The artist Isamu Noguchi once remarked that “sculpture exists only to give meaning to space.” Similarly, scent has the ability to shape our experience of a place, subtly filling it with presence and significance. Escalier and Columnae are the bridge between fragrance and space through touch. Integrated into daily life, they become part of the rhythm of a home—quietly weaving memories and imaginations into the spaces we inhabit.

Columnae carries a quiet confidence, reminiscent of a structure that has withstood time—rooted, steady, and full of history. Its blend of vetiver, black pepper, bitter orange, and tuya evokes the scent of aged pages, worn leather, and the depth of stories passed through generations. There is a richness to these notes, a sense of something well-preserved yet still lively. Soft floral undertones introduce a gentle contrast, adding refinement and lightness to the composition.

Escalier, Columnae’s counterpart, is an open-ended connection. The bright notes of the Escalier fragrance offer a comfort that reassures and inspires. Carrot seed, cardamom, vetiver, and blood orange suggest new ideas and the essence of ascent. As the scent’s bright, exotic notes are released through the hand wash or the cream, spiced aromas become part of the atmosphere, shaping the space around them with a distinct presence, both invigorating and familiar.

Sculpture Garden is a pure reflection of FRAMA’s perspective of existence. The multi-disciplinary brand, made up of furniture, lifestyle objects, self care, and fragrances, inspires the senses and encourages mindful living by forming sensory human connections through objects and spatial works. With an emphasis on spatial permanence, natural materials, and high quality, FRAMA’s work celebrates craftsmanship. Genuine connection, whether between individuals or between people and objects, shapes FRAMA’s approach to design, fostering an aesthetic that feels both enduring and sincere.
