The 18th Edition of the Barcelona Design Week aims to define how design could be a performing weapon in the human future.
‘Design for Human Future’ is the title that encapsulates the idea that connects every action taking place at the Barcelona Design Week (BDW) from 16th to 28th of October.
This year, with the purpose of aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals, Barcelona Design Week promotes a more human and humanistic future through the power of design with more than 100 activities that cover a wide range of creative expressions for all audiences.
Among the collaborating events taking place these days, Interihotel, Blanc! Festival and 48h Open House Barcelona, this edition of the festival has named the Wikihousing module as Building 18, which can be visited this weekend.
The 200th anniversary of Paseo de Gracia has also marked some interesting encounters around it: exhibitions such as Design Challenge, Pure Plants, Nutura and Young people wanting to move to a better future; and also other events like the 18th day of Design for Human Future, the Opening of Barcelona Design Week, Disseny en Diagonal and OFF BDW, with 60 more activities.
This year, the BDW counts with Associated Venues—unique spaces that host part of the main programming: Roca Barcelona Gallery, Manyone Barcelona, CASA SEAT, Cosentino City Barcelona, IKEA Diagonal, Kave Home, The Social Hub Barcelona Poblenou and La Masia HP Experience Design Center.
The new edition is framed in a never seen before climate context which requires an urgency of solutions. In this sense, the event is presented as a true catalyst for change and a guiding light towards a promising future. As Isabel Roig—Director of Barcelona Design Week and Barcelona Design Center, explains “the role of design must be to improve our world. It must talk about well-being, sustainability, innovation, gender equality…”
The ultimate goal of BDW 2023 is “to generate content beyond this edition that we will send to the United Nations,” explains Alessandro Manetti, curator of Barcelona Design Week 2023.
Openhouse will be featuring the most appealing activities of this new edition of Barcelona Design Week.
