Openhouse Studio and Poltrona Frau celebrated the Italian brand’s 110th anniversary in its Barcelona home on December 1st.
Named ‘Historic Brand of National Interest’ by the Italian government in 2021, in Poltrona Frau the research has been a key concept since its outset in 1912, which has led it to create timeless pieces expressing a universal yet intimate and personal elegance.
Poltrona Frau has launched over 200 products in the last decade within different lines of home furniture as well as furnishing accessories, leather and textile collections. A brand new strategy based on the endless creativity of its team that has positioned the brand as a lifestyle creator rather than a furniture company. Furthermore, the increasing demand for ‘made to measure’ has led the brand to work together with some international architects as relevant as Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster and David Chipperfield among others.
The 110th anniversary is the right moment to have a look back, honor and emphasize the imprint that Poltrona Frau has marked in history. From the Chester to the Vanity Fair sofa by Renzo Frau, to iconic pieces created in collaboration with renowned talents in design such as the Ouverture by Pierluigi Cerri, the Dezza by Gio Ponti, the Archibald by Jean-Marie Massaud.
The driving force behind Poltrona Frau savoir faire is the factory in Tolentino, Italy. With deep roots in the local area, it is structured to combine the manual craftsmanship with the most sophisticated technologies and meticulous quality control.
The leather touch of Poltrona Frau has a presence in institutions and public spaces such as museums and auditoriums, whose interiors have been transformed by the design team. The iconic brand founded in 1912, has given a century of life and culture to leather, the most used material of its catalog with a vision of style that interacts with its own time making it evolve and remain consistent with its own roots.
A value that has been recognized by the most prestigious car companies such as Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Land Rover, Audi and Porsche. The Interiors in Motion department, founded in 1984, has also dressed yachts, trains, airplanes and helicopters in collaboration with Alitalia, Singapore Airlines, Pershing and Italo among other corporations.
In the event at Casamitjana Showroom, the guests got the opportunity of traveling through the history of the Italian heritage design brand. Curated by Openhouse, the images —a series of posters from the 20’s to our days— were placed in the space to create a narrative that would take the guests through a journey of the brand’s history.
On December 1st, Barcelona design aficionados joined to celebrate Poltrona Frau’s 110th Birthday with an event hosted at Casamitjana and curated by Openhouse, discovering the brand’s yesterday, today and tomorrow.
