Like a sustained note guiding an entire melody, rattan takes center stage in Cadenza, the new collection launched by Expormim. Or perhaps it’s more akin to a musical score, as its designer, David López Quincoces, explains: “I wanted the name to reflect the rhythm conveyed by the collection through the structure and repetition of elements that create sequences and define the character of the pieces.”
In recent years, David López Quincoces has seen his work elevated and his philosophy extended across various disciplines. Regardless of the project’s nature, he has consistently adhered to fundamental principles: respect for history, conscious innovation, a focus on quality, and the always essential functionality. These principles ensure that each creation is not only beautiful but also meaningful and enduring. “I believe that in the end, it’s the aesthetic vision, proportions, and gestures that reveal you as a designer. It is something that comes naturally, almost instinctively. Each project is a process influenced by many factors, whether it’s the material, the technique, or the dialogue with the team.”
The active listening and the presence of rhythm are two concepts that David skillfully manages in his collaborations, whether with companies or fellow designers. “Working in a team is always a complex challenge; it’s not just about you. It is probably the most complicated process, but it allows me to learn and grow as a professional in several aspects.”
In every chord of Cadenza, the echo of Mediterranean serenity is transformed into tangible forms that invite one to live and enjoy. This simplicity, deeply rooted in Expormim, was subtly yet directly integrated into each piece by David through an exercise in conscious empathy: “The process always begins with studying the brand, its history, collection, values, and principles. The challenge is adapting your aesthetic to these needs or production techniques and ensuring that it blends seamlessly within their collection.”
With its distinctive rattan elements arranged to emphasize verticality and outline silhouettes in an elegant symphony, the Cadenza collection includes a two-seater sofa, a three-seater sofa, an XL sofa, and two armchairs of varying sizes.
David López Quincoces‘ pursuit of harmony in his designs revolves around the exceptional versatility of rattan. A noble and traditional material that Expormim has successfully modernized, making it as suitable as any other option for the home. With the Cadenza collection, David adds a new chapter to his rich catalog of timeless unique objects.
