“Gestures of Home” at 3 Days of Design 2025

When Home Meets Gallery

For this year’s 3 Days of Design, Openhouse partnered with Expormim, Armadillo Rugs, and Saba Italia to present an exhibition that reimagined the boundaries between home and gallery; blurring them, challenging them, and, at times, gently holding them apart. Titled Gestures of Home, the installation transformed the domestic space into a poetic gallery, where design unfolded as both a form of artistic expression and an intimate part of everyday life.

Styled by Henriette Schou and set within The Conary, the exhibition redefined the home not simply as a functional space, but as a dynamic stage where design is not just shown, but lived. It became a place where craftsmanship met contemporary vision, and where objects took on new meaning through their interaction with space and light.

The Conary provided an ideal setting for the installation, offering two distinct tableaus: the ground floor and the atrium. Each area embodied the unique yet complementary identities of the three brands.  On the ground floor, Saba crafted a warm, emotional setting where soft forms, fine textiles, and poetic freedom invited you to feel at home. In the atrium, Expormim revealed a sculptural installation that expressed Mediterranean craftsmanship through light, volume, and materiality. Throughout, Armadillo’s handwoven rugs grounded the experience—bringing texture, warmth, and a quiet sense of conscious luxury that unites the location.

The exhibition also served as a platform for the unveiling of the brands’ latest collections—offering an exclusive first look at a series of thoughtfully crafted pieces. Armadillo introduced AGRA FORMA, a refined exploration of materiality, form, and the poetic potential of the handmade, created in collaboration with industrial designer Tom Fereday.

Saba Italia presented Anam, a new collection by Federico Peri composed of a table, bookcase, and armchair—each element contributing to a quiet narrative of balance and harmony. The brand also debuted Philia, a collection of coffee tables designed by Studiopepe, conceived to create a perfect connection between different elements of furniture. Meanwhile, Expormim showcased its versatile indoor and outdoor collection, highlighting designs that seamlessly transition between spaces.

From Armadillo’s timeless rugs to Expormim’s beautifully neutral palette and Saba Italia’s form-enhancing approach, the Conary hosted a tasteful installation where sustainability, craftsmanship and female-driven initiatives represent and constitute the core values of design. In their own and one-of-a-kind way, the three brands advocate for naturally-sourced materials, handmade processes and a slow and personal mode of living.

Blending the distinct identities of each brand with a shared philosophy, Gestures of Home invited visitors into a world of intimacy and discovery. To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, Openhouse and the three collaborating brands hosted a launch event on Wednesday, the 18th. With live music in the atrium and playful drinks, over 1,500 guests experienced the installation in a relaxed, joyful atmosphere, one where stories, emotions, artistic presence, and refined beauty came together to honour design.

Rooted in the concept of Gestures of Home, Openhouse also hosted a conversation on Thursday, exploring the home as an evolving, expressive space—a gallery of daily life where intimacy and aesthetic sensibility coexist. The talk reflected on how the domestic realm can become a quiet exhibition, where personal rituals and meaningful objects narrate who we are. Featuring Peter Ibsen, owner of Sunday-S Gallery (a place that itself blurs the line between home and art), Johanna Nyborg, author of the Openhouse feature, and Andrew Trotter, co-founder of Openhouse Magazine and architect, the discussion considered the home as a mirror of life’s rhythms, a stage for creativity, identity, and slow beauty.

In Gestures of Home, reflections, memories, interactions and emotions merged in a contemplation on the space we inhabit—where the home becomes a gallery, and the gallery, a home. Brought to life by Openhouse in collaboration with Expormim, Saba Italia, and Armadillo, the exhibition wove together form, light, texture, and dialogue to remind us that design is not only something we see, but something we live, with presence, intention, and care.
